@Greg_Dryer Completely agree, all very good points. Just to add, if a teacher hurt a pupil by joining in, it could be very serious for, not only the pupil getting very hurt, but also the adult in terms of safeguarding etc. If health and safety or safeguarding fail, so does the lesson.
@HoratioSpeaks This being in relation to schools saying inclusion inclusion inclusion… but using the same systems from 30-40 years ago that “just work” marginalising groups of pupils and then wonder why behaviour is getting worse.
@HoratioSpeaks Some schools their behaviour system has too many warnings and steps that it’s impossible to enforce. Others the HE are adapted by us for SEN/EAL because some behaviour systems don’t work with them, then some kids don’t get why its inconsistent and play up
Dylan Wiliam said that Cognitive Load Theory is ‘the single most important thing for teachers to know’. This poster summarises some key ideas from CLT and offers 6 strategies to optimise instruction and maximise learning.
Reflected on some PE teaching faux pas today and came up with this idea for a meme.
What d'ya think? 😅

@Greg_Dryer@Actionjackson Or even better what we can do as the educator to support the young people in front of us. Some have said motivation is the problem but that falls back to the teacher in knowing what motivates people. Autonomy within the lesson. Is it relatable and is the challenge just right
@Greg_Dryer@Actionjackson Completely agree Greg! Most teaching I’ve seen works off a deficit model. A strengths based approach building on what skills children can do, rather than looking at them as problems to be fixed or what they lack, could really make a difference
Delivering units in PE for a longer period of time - 12 weeks rather than 5/6 lessons - seems to result in far more progress & mastery learning. Why don’t more schools adopt this approach? 🤔
Strange how some ‘adults’ appear to feel threatened by this powerful, thoughtful, considered ‘user review’ of education. Dismissal of these insights are not just disrespectful but implies a lack of willingness to listen and learn…
⚽️ Our last day of 'Girls Sports Week' and we ended with a Football fun day. Over 200 girls playing football and having fun.
Thank you to leaders from @NDSouthwark for running the stations and to @CoLA_Southwark for hosting the day. #letgirlsplay@Jasmine_Ali@YouthSportTrust
Seen this on Twitter a couple of years ago and thought I’d share it as it’s something I now always do. Quick hack in having always visible teaching points or lesson objectives when teaching Table Tennis/ Badminton 🏓🏸
