You know what’s better for tenants than rent control?
Actually building enough housing so rents stabilize, or even fall, especially in older, ‘Class C’ workforce housing units.
A dozen mayors from major Massachusetts cities are opposing the rent control ballot question this fall, warning it could undermine housing production and strain critical local revenue needed to support growth.
“At a time when I want to build more homes, rent control is going to stop production.
Why?
Because investors who put the money up to build those homes are going to other parts of the Country… It’s not the way to lower housing costs. We gotta grow supply.”

@karaemiller Great piece - spot on.
Curious though - did Ana Oliver tell you that she’s on the Brockton School Committee?
She represents my ward. Would be curious to know if she has ever raised this issue in committee meetings.
@HeyRatty Just watched first episode with my kids and then tried to explain sitting on the curb outside The Tap after Boone homer with head in my hands.
