What if the story of food and health is about more than food? What do we lose when opportunities to enjoy meals together are rare?

New research suggests the economics of GLP-1s may not conform to a popular, bleak, and possibly false narrative that depicts obesity medicines as a money pit. To the contrary, with persistent use, they may save money.

Agreed wholeheartedly.
Two things can be true at the same time:
1. Much of the prepared food available in supermarkets in the US is nutritionally disastrous.
2. Adults have agency over what they eat.
But when kids aren't taught how to prepare healthy meals, when inner-city schools have all but abandoned outdoor sports, when nutritional education is replaced by a narrative of helpless victimhood or (even worse) that being morbidly obese is perfectly healthy then we end up here. A society where the affluent are slim while the poor are obese.
It's morally wrong and we also frankly cannot afford it financially.
A new essay in the @nytimes tells us every grocery and restaurant is a battlefield in a war we're losing. Unwittingly, when we buy any of a wide array of foods that comprise most of what everyone eats, we are unknowingly surrendering to a ruthless enemy.

@ConscienHealth Insanity. This program would easily pay for itself many times over from the savings it would generate from reducing the current costs associated with caring for people living with obesity.
How well will it work if we divide obesity care into a system of haves and have nots? The administration has opened a path for more access to obesity care in Medicaid, but state politicians seem disinterested.
