BVM Roadmap (Apr 2024): Bitcoin Module Store
Among the products we're shipping this month, we want to highlight one really important one: the Bitcoin Module Store β where builders can find the best-of-breed blockchain modules for their Bitcoin L2s.
It's like the App Store, but instead of apps, there are modules. It's the builder's LEGO store. Builders can plug and play all kinds of modules into their Bitcoin L2s.
Let's dive into the new modules this month.
Rollup Modules
β Optimistic Rollup
π² ZK Rollup (April 5)
Optimistic Rollup has been good to us. All the Bitcoin L2s powered by BVM are using Optimistic Rollup.
We're adding another option for builders: ZK Rollup.
While ZK Rollup is a newer rollup technology, it's promising. We look forward to faster block time (1s vs 2s) and shorter withdrawal time (6 hours vs 6 days).
The first Bitcoin L2 to implement ZK Rollup is @CryptoEternalAI, a Bitcoin L2 for AI.
Thank you, @Optimism and @zksync, for creating OP Stack and ZK Stack, which we re-use to build these modules.
Governance Modules
π² DAO (April 5)
After we release the DAO module, anyone can start a DAO for their Bitcoin L2 with a few clicks. Their holders can submit proposals or vote on proposals.
The first DAO will be the @BVMnetwork DAO itself, where SHARD holders can co-manage the BVM Treasury and make decisions together on the very first proposals.
It's gonna be exciting!
The initial DAO design is similar to the @nounsdao and @compoundfinance governance design. Thank you for making your job easy.
Data Availability Modules
β Ordinals
β Polygon
β Eigen DA
β Near DA
β Avail
π² Celestia
The Data Availability modules are the most mature. They've been battle-tested on the BVM infrastructure since June 2023.
We had an issue with @CelestiaOrg integration. Our plan is to fix it this month.
We also look forward to @AvailProject and @eigen_da going mainnet soon so Bitcoin L2s powered by BVM can use them as their DA layers.
Thank you, @musalbas and @nickwh8te, for helping out with the Celestia issue. We're still working through it. Hope we'll be able to get our Celestia module back up soon on the Bitcoin L2s powered by BVM.
Data Validation Modules
β Ordinals
π² Bitcoin Stamps
The Ordinals Data Validation module is stable. Last month, we added Bitcoin Stamps as another Data Validation module.
With help from the Bitcoin Stamps team, we're adding support for OLGA, which will significantly lower the cost.
The first Bitcoin L2 that will use Bitcoin Stamps Data Validation is @swamps_src20, a Bitcoin L2 for SRC-20 DeFi.
Thank you, @mikeinspace, for the OLGA upgrade. It will save Bitcoin L2s a lot of sats.
Wallet Modules
β MetaMask Wallet
β Xverse Wallet
β Unisat Wallet
β OKX Wallet
π² Gate Wallet (April 5)
The more wallet options, the better for users, so they can use what they like.
We're working with the @okxweb3 Wallet and @gate_io Wallet teams to add their wallets to the BVM infra.
Thank you, @Hui_Huangg and @Rubylulu0621, for supporting us throughout the integrations.
AI Modules
β AI Contracts Lib
π² Experiments with GPUs
Building the AI Contracts Lib for builders to create fully on-chain AI has been fun. As soon as we shipped the first version, we felt it was a "0 to 1" moment.
This month, we'll experiment with GPUs to speed up training and inference. We're also exploring partnering up with a couple of GPU blockchain networks.
The first Bitcoin L2 to implement these GPU experiments will be @CryptoEternalAI.
Thank you, @AIonBitcoin, for working with us on these insanely fun experiments: putting AI on the blockchain. And thank you, @Filecoin, for your continuing support.
DeFi Modules
β Swap
β Perpetual Futures
π² Order Book (April 19)
The BRC-20 Swap AMM module is working well. It has done over $50M in trading volume so far.
It would be interesting to add an Order Book module. So, any DeFi Bitcoin L2 powered by BVM can add an Order Book trading feature with a click.
The first Bitcoin L2 to implement Order Book will be @naka_chain, a Bitcoin L2 for DeFi.
We're exploring both @Uniswap Limit Order design and @0xProject Order Book design.
Interoperability Modules
β BRC-20 Bridge
β SRC-20 Bridge
β BRC-404 Bridge
β Ethereum Bridge
π² Arbitrum Bridge (April 5)
π² Solana Bridge (April 12)
π² Runes Bridge (April 19)
π² Decentralized Bridge Design (April 26)
We'll add three new bridges in April: Arbitrum, Solana, and Runes.
While @arbitrum and @solana allow BVM to tap into other ecosystems, Runes is especially exciting.
Any Bitcoin L2 powered by BVM can add a Runes Swap, Runes Perpetual Futures, and Runes Order Book in a few clicks.
And their users can start trading Runes immediately with a 2-second block time and a $0.001 transaction fee.
We'll also work on the design of the Decentralized Bridge. While we're waiting for a solution like BitVM to be ready, we have found a design that we feel pretty good about for the time being. We'll progressively decentralize the bridges over time.
It's a great time to build on Bitcoin!
If you're a builder thinking about launching your Bitcoin L2, please DM me. We'd love to chat and learn more.
We also have grants for small projects to bootstrap your Bitcoin L2. I'm just one DM away!
See you on #Bitcoin
