If Nigeria is really a working country that cares about the Tertiary Education Standard, polytechnics are supposed to be rated ahead of universities.
For instance, the only thing Unilorin has ahead of Kwarapoly is Landmass.
Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin Overall Best Graduating Student. Congratulations, Scholar Habeebat.
Chief Judge, Law Students’ Society.
I’m always proud of you. 🤍
Let me tell the brief story of my results for those who might not know.
So in 100level, I believed I had the best result and was to emerge the scholar until I realized that my level adviser made a mistake in my results. He said I was a common law student and shouldn’t registered Arabic (which I scored a B) and he didn’t add it to my result. Hilarious! So it’s 3.93 at the end of 100level.
So out of annoyance, I walked out of his office and told myself that from 200level till we would graduate, nobody in my class would outscore me in any semester or session. Then after 200 level, I still scored the highest and had the best results. In fact, I was so confident that nobody in my class would have secured a higher CPGA. But the same level adviser made a mistake in calculating my grades again and my name was left out of the list of the faculty scholars. The funniest part here was that I approached the Senate building to pick up my academic gown as a university scholar but my name was missing. By the time we realized it was a mistake from my level adviser, it was too late because the Senate Council had approved results. So it ended 4.78 in 200level.
Then again, I told myself, 300level, nobody would outscore me and this time I was ready to go harder. Then in 300level again, I secured the highest CGPA and I was now officially recognized as the university scholar and given all the recognitions and entitlements. Then, Unilorin used to give scholars free hostel, 97k every session and automatic membership for academic procession for convocations and inaugural lectures. So it ended 4.59 in 300 level (it was that low because I took a science course that graded me so poorly).
Then in 400level, I told myself, I had to retain this lead and that’s when I gingered myself to graduate with a first class. So I targeted a 5.00 but ended up with 4.80. In fact, I cried because the 2 courses that got me B’s were so simple but the marking was tough and the scores were funny. But I still retained my lead and emerged the university scholar again with all my entitlements.
Then in 500level, I was more determined to finish with a first class and I couldn’t afford to score below a 4.50 to secure it. But I was still involved in many extra-curricular activities. So when the results were released, and I was listed as a first class graduate, it didn’t come to me so much as a surprise, even though it was rumoured that results would be moderated not to produce a first class, I didn’t believe I wouldn’t graduate with it. Because why not? In the end, it was a 4.53 CGPA, thanks to my poor performance in 100level😃
What this journey taught me was consistency, hardwork and not giving up no matter the disappointments. Above all, God’s grace.
@King__Badmus Because you have a rotten sense and brain that only AI can converse with does not mean that's how it is for others.
