@randomrecruiter After 13 years in talent acquisition, I’ve moved into resourcing and staffing at a consultancy and can’t believe it took me so long to make the move! Yes you have to reduce pay, but long term it’s a much better job/industry than hiring in tech.
Until you can master delivering your two minute introduction and being able to encapsulate your experience to reflect value and ROI, you are never going to master interviews.
At 36 and after 13 years recruiting for fintech companies, it’s time for a new challenge.
I’m delighted to announce I’ve joined a global tech and management consultancy focusing on resourcing for banking and asset management clients.
It’s never too late to make a career change.
My resolution for next year is to prioritise hobbies.
Cooking classes. Scrapbooking. Knitting. Baking. Pilates. Tarot Reading. Learning French. Sudoku. Building Lego. Gaming. Journalling. Painting. Gardening.
2025 is going to be the year of finding joy and fulfilment in life.

During my pregnancy, I nearly doubled my weight going from 58kg to 101kg.
This year, I’ve lost 15kg through healthy eating, daily walks and attending Pilates classes 3x a week.
I still have a long way to go, but I’m so proud of myself and the results so far.
You don’t need to meet 100% of the requirements to apply for a role.
Job descriptions are a hiring manager’s wish list and they don’t expect candidates to meet all their expectations.
Don’t underestimate yourself - you should be moving your career vertically, not horizontally.
During these difficult times take care of yourself.
Rest, get a massage, pray more, take social media breaks.
Say no more, don’t deal with a lot of people, sleep in, go to the gym, watch a good movie.
Eat healthy, drink more water, take your vitamins.
One of the smartest and financially rewarding things you can do in your career is join a startup.
If the company grows from Series A to a Unicorn, joining early and receiving stock can literally enable you to retire by 35.
Do not sleep on small companies.
@DiaryofaSickGrl After five days of Labour, an induction, forcep delivery, second degree tear and losing two litres of blood, the midwife told me if I didn’t breastfeed straight after the birth, then I would never be able to do it.
The same midwife who told me I wasn’t pushing correctly.
Just a reminder to make the most of your benefit package before 2025.
- Does your company offer free courses or training?
- Are you making the most of your private healthcare?
- Have you spent your learning budget?
- Do you have any annual leave left to take?
If you are looking for a promotion next year, the most important thing you can do right now is focus on developing your emotional intelligence and learning to read the room.
For years, I’ve searched for validation and approval from work.
2025 is going to be all about knowing my worth, seeking internal acceptance and acknowledging my strengths, achievements and emotions to find validation within.
Since 2018, I’ve worked as a Data Analyst and subcequently as a Data Scientist, and now a Data Consultant. Over those years, I can count on one hand the number of female data professionals I’ve directly worked with. Women remain significantly underrepresented in tech.
- The scarcity of women in tech over the past decade has resulted in limited female presence in senior roles today. In 2023, only 14% of tech leaders were women.
- Over the past three years, the number of female developers has increased by just 4%. Despite this growth, women still constitute less than 25% of developers worldwide.
- Women occupy only 20% of technical positions in major machine learning companies. The World Economic Forum projects that by 2025, AI will create approximately 12 million new jobs, yet many of these roles may continue to lack female representation.
The change has to start from somewhere. I am Lucky to be leading a team of solely women data professionals and as we grow over the next few years I hope to see more women join us.
The likes of Code First Girls, Girls who code, All Women are just a few organisations trying to bridge the Gap, and gave me the help I needed to start of my data career. There’s an opportunity for every woman in tech and it’s not too late to start now.
