@GenderBen turns the cis gaze on its head: why do we gender cars by putting eyelashes on headlights and how did eyelashes get coded as female in the first place?! What do we really lose if we leave an object the same but remove a gendered label? #contemporarygender

Trans people are scapegoated to avoid questions about pay inequality, masculinity and suicide, #metoo and sexual harassment... Linking back to @travisalabanza @megjohnbarker places trans as a gift, opening wider intersectional discussions we urgently need #contemporarygender

Combined with the huge backlash against tackling gendered stereotypes in schools, this all points to the driving force as people clinging on to gender normativity #contemporarygender

The moral panic isn't about any single issue but joins up totally unrelated things: medical treatment for kids, political correctness, prisons, access to domestic violence services.... Many of which echo the Section 28 panic #contemporarygender

Blown away by keynotes at #contemporarygender. @megjohnbarker working through the lazy misinformation and contradictions in the trans panic. If the real concern is nonconsensual irreversible surgeries on kids, why is the media silent about medical procedures on intersex people?
