There is nothing automatic about foreign exchange running out. Only the RBI can deplete reserves. The policy question is whether to deplete reserves to support the rupee. I argue that there are ample grounds to let the rupee adjust to arrive at lower imports, higher exports, and to encourage capital inflows. Intervention in FX markets can wait another day.

Today, I am sharing this tweet.

This is the very tweet that, back in 2021, brought me rape threats, just because I shared a candid view. It spiraled so widely that it reached my college. I was still a student then, and things didn’t stop at online abuse. Boys from the college union showed up at my house to intimidate me.

That was the “freedom of speech” I experienced back then.

But this morning feels different.
I’ve been crying since yesterday, and for the first time after an election, these aren’t tears of fear or helplessness… they are tears of happiness.

In 2021 we had come out in London in multiple locations to protest against the TMC political violence in West Bengal.

The image went viral and a radical supporter of Mamta Bannerji, who was employed in a IT company in UK, threatened us. He tagged the TMC cadre, Mamata Bannerji and Derek O Brien, asking them to identify us (we were wearing masks because of Covid) implying that they should go after us and we be taught a lesson. It was a real threat for those with families back home in West Bengal.

Five years and West Bengal has broken this very thuggery, corruption and political violence. May it rise again in all its glory. Jai Ma Durga!
