I just finished watching First Kill on Netflix. It should have been specifically my jam (we’re talking vampires, star-crossed lovers, wlw), but I ended up completely underwhelmed. It’s kind of bumming me out.
I don’t mean to suggest that all writing should be sparse and barren, more that one shouldn’t be advised to add unnecessary words just to be more fancy, especially as a beginner.
How many beginner writers are going to this site and finding “said is dead,” and here’s how to use fancy words to obfuscate your meaning, and why use three words when seven will do?
I literally saw one entitled, “How to write scenes that don’t affect your plot.” I’m not saying every scene you write has to be an integral part of your main plot, but if it has no affect on it, why is it there?
