@NadineORegan@RTERadio1 The above monument is in Shane MacGowan’s family’s home village, Kilbarron in Tipp. It was erected soon after he passed away and mentions a number of local place names: “The Cross of Finoe” and “the road leading up Glenaveigh” as well of course as “The Broad Majestic Shannon”
Really looking forward to the official opening of the @PressPhoto_IRL exhibition at @tippcoco Nenagh on Tuesday 18th at 6.30 with presentation by @alanbetson to follow.
Well done to all involved in the completion on the Offaly section of the @waterwaysirelan Grand Canal greenway. It is now possible to cycle from Shannon Harbour to Edenderry on this world class cycle way. @visitoffaly
@tracksntrailsTV@visitoffaly@sinead_moriarty Well done to all involved in the completion of the Offaly section of the Grand Canal greenway. It’s now possible to cycle from Shannon Harbour to Edenderry on top class paths beside the canal.
@gerardcam One of the great thrills of attending the Ronde Von Flandre was visiting the permanent race museum in Oudenaarde where Freddy was the curator and manager, always there to show people around.
Recently visited the Tipp heartland to which Shane MacGowan felt such an umbilical connection. Having commemorated the place in song, the people now have commemorated him in a limestone monument - and a specially designed jersey by the local GAA team.
