You're comparing apples to oranges here. This is mostly club competition versus national team competition.
You can't really compare them. NHL teams train and play together for ~9 months a year, building real chemistry and shared systems. National teams are usually thrown together for just a week or two of training before the tournament starts — whether it's the World Cup, Olympics, or anything else. Different mindsets, mismatched talent, and almost no chemistry.
That's a completely different challenge.
Right now we already have 5 international break windows spread throughout the year, giving players about 10 international matches. If instead we changed the calendar to one big focused 3-month block every four years — handling qualifiers and the finals together, with proper recovery time and no scattered friendlies — it would be a totally different story. Football Leagues could end in late March (Champions League final around then), players would still get a proper off-season, and we'd see much higher quality, better chemistry, and talent at its peak.
Honestly, they blew a great opportunity to use the World Cup as an excuse to build a new outdoor stadium in Montreal. Originally, Canada was awarded the right to host matches in three cities as part of the co-hosting agreement between the three countries. BC originally decided not to bid, and now we’re down to just two host cities, which is a shame.
@FabrizioRomano This is example of why multi-host countries is not a good idea, they have different visa policies so if you have any pending court dates upcoming whether you are innocent or guilty, you are not allowed to enter as Canada has always been enforcing this policy for decades.
I would pass at this deal. The one on one trade would involves Hronek for 2nd overall and that's it and is most fairest way since Hronek would be worth more to the Sharks than to us. The Canucks would have 2nd and 3rd overall pick. It is a fair deal. That is the price. 20th overall pick will not do us any favor that much.
If we want to trade down after we ever get our own man at 2nd overall pick, we could even entertain the 3rd pick overall to any team that wants the pick to get more picks in 1st rounder in top 10 and a 2nd rounder. Hronek deal we traded away was a NYI 1st round pick from the Islanders and a 2nd rounder to Red wings so we need all of the pick back we traded away somehow.
@iamkennethchan If we knew that the World Cup is coming, why couldn't they do everything to ensure that there's agreement is secured in place for all essential service before the CBA has expired? That is a major flop on government side.
@VanDamGuy69 I don't want Newell Brown as a part of the assistant coach staff running PP. Any other coaches on the list, I wouldn't mind giving them a chance but not Newell Brown. He has had his chance years ago and it did not end well for him.
Actually, the DOJ probe is about whether Carroll perjured herself on who was funding her lawsuits—not the assault claim itself. She testified no outside funding in deposition, but a Reid Hoffman nonprofit covered fees. If proven she knowingly lied under oath, that's criminal perjury regardless of the underlying case. Accountability cuts both ways.
It is better for voters to replace them now through the primaries—even if it means losing six months of them blocking the agenda—than to endure six more years of RINOs blocking every bill that benefits America. We might suffer a little in the short term to drive bad senators out of Congress, but we will be far better off in the long run by replacing them. We already know their character, and it is not serving America’s interests. They missed their opportunity to advance whatever agenda they wanted by refusing to work with Trump, so we should cut them off before things get worse.
I would prefer it to be BPA regardless of ranking or the relationship between father and son. If Malhotra is the BPA then take him. We do have the option of trading down to get some more asset if we are coveting him over BPA and they wouldn't even take Malhotra when it's 3rd pick. I pretty much prefer to use 3rd overall pick on BPA over Malhotra though.
If you are a coach out of job, I'd want some security, longevity with no expectation and has an opportunity to develop a career journeyman coach into a tenured coach, Vancouver is the place to be because once you make the playoffs in year 4 of a rebuilding, you have a chance to coach for 2 or 3 more seasons with a good team like Marty St. Louis with Montreal. Toronto/Edmonton are kind of a pressure to win now mode even with Leafs having the first overall pick with higher chance of getting fired if you don't meet the expectation.
@ShaziGoalie This is a serious crime. The sentencing guideline should be a life sentences for those caught tag swapper. This will lead to more security on the tagging now that it's becoming a big news worldwide.
@ClownWorld Landowner will always have the right of how it is that the company must respect the property right. The company is at liable of getting sued by the landowner.
I just don't see anything wrong with that because I've seen people celebrate early even if the race wasn't over and still count this a win. I think it is a double standard. I'm sorry but that is not taunting. The upper ups must do something about this to reverse that horrible decision.
I'm sure they would want their own man in. RJ and Sedin has nothing to do with Foote as a head coach and I'm sure they have had some first hand experience of what Foote was like in the training camp last year and mostly keeping to themselves if they didn't have a good first impression and the body of work despite injuries and how he treated everybody differently between rookies and veterans will go a long way of determining whether he'd be back.
I feel like Manny will be the head coach for the Canucks sooner rather than later.
You would have to think inflation in 20 years, $1 million will not be same value as $1 million in 2046. It might be $2 million in 2046 and $1,000 per week in 2046 will not be enough. If another nation decide to invade Canada, she will lose 1,000 a week for life since new laws and old agreement will make the current weekly prize void.
