That's because it's half film & half digital, so it's always changing frame rates. The show FEELS different on a CRT. Also, they COMPLETELY changed the colors for the HD releases. People aren't gaslighting you. The VHS version legitimately looks like a completely different anime.

For those that don't know Katsushi Ota, he was the one responsible for getting Kara no Kyoukai an official publication with Kodansha.

Nasu and Takeuchi were unsure that it would sell well, but Ota was convinced otherwise and chased them until they said yes. Ota was proven right and the Kara no Kyoukai novel series is still immensely popular today.

Ota now editing the upcoming Mahoutsukai no Yoru novel series and giving it such high praise means the return of a journey that happened over 20 years ago.
