5 founders from Mangaluru who went to the same college have a candid chat about what it means to be based in Mangalore and build from here. What’s working, what’s not and where our city goes from here.

🚨 KL Rahul takes an indirect dig at Sanjiv Goenka in recent Podcast 🚨
KL Rahul said: “No matter what you do, or how many boxes you tick, there is nothing in sport that guarantees victory. That’s the hardest thing to explain to people who come from a non-sporting background.
After a point, it can feel like you’re constantly being questioned: Why did you make this change? Why did Jatin play in that role? Why did the opposition score 200 and we couldn’t even reach 120? Why are their bowlers getting more spin?
So I had to explain all of this right up to the ownership level as a captain. I honestly didn’t feel as drained in 10 months of playing international cricket as I did in just those two months of playing the IPL.” [HOB]
The amount of heat I am receiving for this post, just proves how insensitive we have become towards other humans.
Let’s be clear:
Indigo absolutely deserves every ounce of criticism it is getting.
>Chronic delays
>Horrible communication
>Operational reasons spammed like a template while passengers are stranded with no clarity.
>Lost baggage.
>That is on the airline, on their systems, on their management.
But the 23 year old standing at the gate making 25–30k a month is not the villain of this story. They did not overbook your flight. They did not mismanage slots. They did not decide to announce a delay at the very last minute.
If your first instinct is to bark at the only powerless person in the entire chain, you are part of the problem.
Drag Indigo. Question Indigo. Boycott Indigo if you want.
Buy Indigo puts, don't book their flights.
We were once at a meeting with a major Bollywood A-lister at a well-known producer’s place.
We were seated in a small circle - the star was passionately explaining something about his soon to be released movie, when the person serving tea and biscuits walked right into the middle of the group. The clatter of the tray, mugs, and spoons broke his concentration. He paused.
The attendant, realizing the awkward silence he’d caused, said, “Sorry, sir.”
The star replied, “Nahi, tu serve kar le pehle.”
Then he looked him in the eye and gave a smile - it was his way of saying, "I'm not being sarcastic, I mean it."
He didn’t need to do that, but he did - just to ensure the man felt at ease.
Today, I was watching an interview of his on YouTube. Whenever some one in the audience was nervous while asking him a question - I noticed that same smile.
And it reminded me: good people are kind to those they don’t need to be kind to. That quality never leaves them.
We have an employee who’s been with us for 40 years. Yes, 40.
And it wasn’t just the salary that kept him here.
It was the relationship he built with my father and the support he received from the company during tough times.
I grew up watching my dad run Gulabdas & Co. He never talked about retention or engagement. He simply treated people with respect, kept his word, stood by them when things got hard, and understood them like family. He showed up for every occasion.
That kind of bond builds a sense of belonging no perk can replace.
I’m trying to build the same benchmark.
A place where people stay because they feel valued, not because the offer is good.
Forty years is a big milestone, but that’s the bar I’m aiming for.

Even if you're not in marketing, you should read this post from the former CMO of Nike. It details Nike's transition from a brand-driven demand creation engine to a data-driven performance DTC model that relied primarily on sales on https://t.co/cbf6NiqhCn.
The results?
After the release of Nike's Q2 2024 financial results, they lost 25B in market cap in a day, and shares hit their lowest since 2018. Decling -32% since the beginning of 2024. Ouch.
Here is my favorite excerpt:
"Nike invested a material amount of dollars (billions) into something that was less effective but easier to be measured vs something that was more effective but less easy to be measured. In conclusion: an impressive waste of money."
Will marketing see renewed interest and perhaps even a renaissance in brand advertising? For Nike's sake, I hope so.

No one cares. The govt, the political parties, the BESCOM officials. Everyone is happy making money. Be it potholes and flooded roads under BBMP or loose hanging live wires under BESCOM, corruption is their only work. #Apathy

Finding parking is a major challenge in cities across India. The situation is such that some end up violating traffic rules by parking in spots that are not deemed a “parking spot”. Tackling this problem will help solve a lot problems in India. This is why we are experimenting with a new product/feature that allows users to find and book parking spots through the Flashmates app. Testing this out in Mangalore, Udupi, Bangalore, Mysore and Coorg. If you or know someone who owns, runs or manages parking lots within Karnataka, do reach out via [email protected].
