Day 8 of growing a Gen Z Social Commentary YouTube Channel all naturally.
Things are going great, one video just hit 1,000 views! First 5 videos are looking nice, I'm going to grow it to at least 100 subscribers before showing it off.
I do this so YouTube has an easier time finding my ideal audience, once that happens videos will likely do even better.
1 sub -> 2 -> 3 -> 6 -> 9 -> 12 ->20

Nobody else in commentary calls out the parasocial dynamic FROM THE CREATOR'S SIDE while being honest about profiting from it. That's the unspoken rule, creators pretend it doesn't exist.
My son is 6. He wants to be like me. One day I want him to see a photo of me standing in front of that burned housing unit at 19 and then a photo of me in front of my own house at 29. That's the only motivational poster I care about.
89% of Class of 2026 believe AI will replace them before they start. 51% think their degree was a waste. Half my generation went into debt for degrees that AI is eating.
Half my generation has a mental health diagnosis. The other half can't afford one. Both groups are hurting. The difference is one has a label and the other has a shift at 7 AM.
45% of Gen Z say they're not ready for relationships. We set impossible bars, feel lonely, crave connection, decide we're not ready. Then repeat. It's a loop, not a roadblock.
Everyone talks about parasocial relationships like it's a viewer problem. I'm on the other side of it. People feel close to me and I can't call a single one of them when something actually goes wrong.
Canadian Gen Z has $9-16 in disposable income per month after essentials. We average $94K in debt. 55% fake financial stability. The system works great, if you're not in it.
People romanticise leaving their hometown. Nobody talks about the ones who left, couldn't afford it, and came back with that look on their face when you run into them at the grocery store.
Men with 6+ close friends: 55% in 1990. 27% now. 15% of men report zero close friends. How many contacts on your phone would you actually call at 2 AM?
The "readiness paradox" says Gen Z won't date because they don't feel ready. I had a kid at 18. Nobody asked if I was ready. Turns out readiness is a luxury you only get when the stakes aren't real yet.
Ran a mortgage calculator last month. Closed the tab. Opened The Richest Man in Babylon. Sometimes you need a guy from 1926 to remind you the math used to work.
