I said I am a Muslim before being a Yoruba, and you people are getting angry. What exactly is the color of your problem?
Being Yoruba is an accident of birth. I did not fill out an application form to be born into this ethnicity; it is simply a matter of geography and genetics decreed by Allah. It is a temporary, earthly reality.
Islam, however, is a conscious submission to the Creator. It is the very purpose of human existence and the only identity that holds weight on the Day of Judgement.
Allah explicitly states in the Quran (Surah Al-Hujurat 49:13) that He made us into nations and tribes simply so we may know one another—not so that we elevate tribalism (Asabiyyah) above His laws.
If prioritizing my eternal faith and submission to Allah over a biological accident triggers you, then your scale of priorities is completely upside down.
My heritage is Yoruba, and I am proud of it, but my ultimate allegiance is to my Creator. Deal with it.
Coffee. Childhood. Leadership. And a few laughs in between.
What does Seyi Makinde sound like when there is no podium, no prepared speech and the conversation can go anywhere?
Over breakfast, we talked about growing up, the Nigerian dream, coffee — and what happens when a leader has to make a difficult decision.
This is Coffee with Seyi.

Questioner: is it permissible to pick up and spend monies placed inside calabash for ritual purposes at T-junctions?
Shaykh Dr Sharafudeen Gbadebo Raji: Yes, it is permissible to spend such money because it falls under money that was deliberately abandoned and should not be regarded as money that was mistakenly lost.
(In Islaam, money that has been mistakenly lost should be kept in a safe place for at least a year, while hoping that the person who lost it would come forward to claim it during that period.)
According to religious bigots, they're automatically terrorists because of the following reasons:
1. They dress like armed terrorists
2. They shout "Allah" during their worship.
These are the usual arguments some bigots use to claim that criminals are automatically Muslims simply because of their appearance or the religious words they use.
Criminality has no religion. The actions of criminals should not be used to assign a religion to every Muslim—or to any other religious group.
