Its an acquired taste and its not always easy to learn to engage with it. A cinephile is someone that has a strong love for film beyond simple entertainment value, thats all.

Film is very much the same way. Its an art form like paintings, music, etc.

You cant bundle old films into a preference. Theyre all vastly different. Its hard at first to engage to something slower and less engaging to what youre used to, it is for everyone.

With all due respect, its like calling yourself a music enthusiast and calling beethoven outdated. No cinephile found it instantly easy to engage with old black and white films.

They are vastly different films and you cant bundle them into a preference. Engaging with things that you arent used too takes time.

Only to name a few, but city lights, harakiri, 12 angry men, psycho, these films will never be "outdated". The popular ones and highly rated ones are so for a reason. You find it boring or unenjoyable because youre not used to it yet, which is ok.
