@ShackelWill@deemadigan How’s this for a reality check. Your whole project nothing more than a front for an astroturf campaign to get the LNP elected. Embarrassing.

Using questionable carbon credits to claim that flying is 'carbon neutral' seems more like greenwashing than climate action.
These accusations are concerning and I'll be following any ACCC investigation.

A new report into the March NSW election from global social impact agency - Purpose - shows "the spread of misinformation and hate speech online has presented serious global challenges to election integrity in recent years, including in some of the world’s largest democracies. The 2023 New South Wales (NSW) Election, held on March 25, was an important opportunity to observe online threats to election integrity in Australia and how these trends are taking shape in this unique jurisdiction.
This report provides five rich case studies to illustrate the patterns of online activity that those working on election integrity and social cohesion in Australia are facing. Using an exploratory, digital-ethnographic approach, we monitored and explored the context of specific incidents, following how they played out across multiple platforms, channels and websites.
Five key trends stood out in our analysis. The first four describe how elections appear to be providing a catalyst for an escalation in organising and tactics in Australia, and the fifth trend covers the roles news media are playing in amplifying misinformation and hate" #nswpol #auspol > https://t.co/gR8gU3NYLd
Australia should be the safest place in the world to go online. But because we let industry write their own rules, we’re failing to create a safe digital world for young Australians. And the public overwhelmingly want a different approach. Our new report:

As #COP27 reaches a (fraught) finale in Sharm el-Sheikh, a short 🧵 on the state of climate mis-/disinformation and our findings from the @caadcoalition Intelligence Unit:

If you have kids (or take care of kids), it is a bad idea to document their lives on social media. This behavior is called sharenting, and it can have negative consequences for the child.

So Facebook was absolutely torched earlier today at a hearing before Canada Parliament while trying to prevent legislation mirroring the Australia law they failed to stop which is now working as planned. Facebook torchings can be entertaining.
Shall I post some video? /1
1/ Counter-disinformation is now blooming into a full industry - it reminds me of the early days of 'preventing violent extremism' in the UK, when I first started my career.
Just like PVE in the early days however, it's extremely unclear what actually works. A few thoughts:
Is Meta running out of ways to legally use our data to target ads? Today's opinion from an advocate general at the European Court of Justice certainly suggests that could be the case. 🧵
Tough decision to make between surveillance dystopia or having to push a vacuum cleaner around.
Legitimate concerns in here of course. But the solutions (both consumer-led & regulator-led) are bloody simple
1. Hello. Amazon today announced it would pay $1.7 billion to acquire iRobot, the company behind the Roomba robotic vacuum.
It may be the most dangerous, threatening acquisition in the company's history. A thread.
Parents know it’s next to impossible to avoid apps for kids, but a new report shows some of Australia’s most popular apps are collecting so much data, they can track kids for life. @cooper_cn, Executive Director of Reset Australia, joins us.

Yesterday @GPriyandita@B_Herscovitch and I published a @CarnegieEndow paper on how Huawei became Indonesia’s trusted cybersecurity partner. Rather than being seen as the problem. They have successfully positioned themselves as the solution. 1/6 https://t.co/wFYybqxW5K

We need a #ChildRightsByDesign approach to build a digital environment in which children thrive.

The major problem with the Code was always that it never ensured funds from the deals would go to pay for journalism. It's a major failing. But also, tech platforms suggesting that their own news products are a solution only further entrenches their power.
