🚨BREAKING: Fourteen current and former Minneapolis police officers signed sworn declarations stating they believe Assistant Chief Katie Blackwell perjured herself during Derek Chauvin’s 2021 trial.

The officers said Blackwell claimed the knee restraint was not trained by the Minneapolis Police Department. Thirty-three officers, including one still serving, signed declarations affirming that the knee-on-neck or knee-to-neck/upper-shoulder restraint was taught as part of the maximal-restraint technique until 2023.

Blackwell, now Acting Chief after Chief Brian O’Hara resigned, testified that Chauvin’s position was an improvised one that was not what the department trained.

The declarations emerged in a defamation lawsuit Blackwell filed against Alpha News over the documentary The Fall of Minneapolis. A judge dismissed the suit and found the core claims substantially true. Blackwell agreed to pay $75,000 in fees and affirmed the judge’s findings as accurate.

Chauvin remains convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

Blackwell testified that the position shown in the video was not what the department trained. The judge noted that portions of her testimony could reasonably be interpreted as incomplete or misleading by omission. She later signed a declaration affirming the judge’s findings.

Fourteen Minneapolis officers say in sworn statements they believe Acting Chief Katie Blackwell lied under oath at Derek Chauvin’s trial about the knee restraint. Thirty-three officers said the technique was trained. Her defamation suit over the claims was dismissed.
