SIGN ONTO OUR DEMANDS, link in bio! We demand the removal of former Hamilton police chief Glenn De Caire and all constables from campus. Insta: @decaireoffcampu
Desmond Cole asks us to consider how much money do campuses spend on walk-home programs, peer-led and survivor-led programs, that actually create safety, and how much on the armed men who inflict fear on campus for BIPOC/Mad students.
@DesmondCole#ScholarStrikeCanada
When 'research' is done on or about marginalized communities & tells them that they are dying, poor, less employed, etc. -With no capacity building, resources or community-lead advocacy tied to it- it is by privilege for a privileged audience-this does not undo marginalization.

Security Services is not equipped to deal with sexual violence and often causes more harm to survivors. As such, Security Services should not be a resource put forward by McMaster University for students seeking support in disclosing experiences of sexual violence.

Moreover, the presence of police on campus places marginalized students at risk of institutional and physical harm – especially those who are disabled, living with mental health concerns, racialized, or members of the 2STLGBQIA+ community. Please read their full thread.

(THREAD) In light of instances of sexual violence becoming public, @McMasterU has put forward McMaster Security Services as a “resource.” What do students have to say about special constables’ approach to safety for survivors? 1/
