Please mention your support for the Union when you shop at any Copperfield’s location. Further posts will elaborate on the situation and provide ways you can help.
Despite all the hard work and well-thought-out proposals the Union has presented to management, and previous progress made on job security and a fair disciplinary process, we have not been able to get more than tiny, token
concessions to existing wages and virtually none to benefits.
We will begin gathering at 12 noon and go until 4 p.m. We encourage everyone to continue shopping at Copperfield’s Books during our informational picket.
On Saturday, August 10, join us in front of the Copperfield’s Petaluma Bookstore, 140 Kentucky Street, for an informational picket to bring attention to the lack of substantive concessions from management over the last five months.
We have dedicated large segments of our lifetimes to serve Petaluma and we have made sacrifices in order to do so. After 178 years, it is not unreasonable to request fair compensation going forward for the expertise and passion we bring to the community.
Among the 19 Union workers (7 full-time, 12 part-time), we have a total of 178 years of experience at Copperfield's. Six of our workers have over a decade of experience, and two more are on the cusp of 10 years.
They’ve refused to acknowledge the hard work, the expertise, and the higher levels of responsibility our workers take upon themselves daily to ensure great community service and higher profitability to the company.
Congrats to the workers of Downtown Petaluma Starbucks for a successful Union vote today, joining Starbucks Workers United and SEIU! Solidarity from Copperfield’s Union! #unionstrong
