Once upon a time, a nation called Persia gave shelter to 4,000 Muslims.
100 years later, the Parsis were wiped out from their own home.
Today, that nation is Iran.
Just thought you should know.
Not only is it illegal to damage election signs, but beyond the law, what does destroying someone else’s sign say about the state of our society?
How have we reached the point where people are so angry at the mere existence of a different political opinion that they believe they are entitled to destroy a sign?
But I am not at all surprised. The last five years have been incredibly divisive, while far too many people in positions of power and influence continue to act as though everything is normal.
For years, people advocating for medical freedom were labelled with all kinds of vile names simply for questioning government policy or making different personal choices. Now citizens peacefully advocating for independence are accused of “treason.”
Words matter. Leadership matters. And those words have consequences.
As the referendum draws closer, I will say it again: I find it deeply troubling, and frankly awkward, to see elected officials actively campaigning for one side of a citizen-led referendum.
Think about it: citizens initiate a referendum because they want government to hear them. Then the very government they are trying to speak to uses its own office, resources, platform, influence to campaign against them.
That completely turns the purpose of citizen-led democracy on its head.
A citizen-led referendum is one of the rare opportunities where the direction is supposed to flow from citizens to government, not government to citizens.
The point is to LISTEN.
Listen to why people signed a petition.
Listen to why people are dissatisfied.
Listen to why some want independence and why others want to remain in Canada.
Provide factual information. Answer questions. Let people debate and decide.
But stop using positions of power to tell citizens what they should think.
And regardless of which side you are on, disagreeing with a political position does not give anyone the right to silence it, intimidate those expressing it, or destroy their property.
Our elected officials have certainly had no difficulty publicly condemning people, comments, and behaviour they disagree with in the past.
So let us watch carefully now.
Who condemns the illegal destruction of election signs and who remains silent?
If we want a healthier society, our elected officials need to start modelling healthy democratic behaviour consistently, not only when it is politically convenient.
Disagreement is democracy. Destruction and intimidation are not.
Something to think about.
CArney just announced a major hydro-electric project in Quebec. Ottawa is set to invest $20 billion.
Albertans will be paying a huge chuck of that. Once built, the power from that project won't be included in Quebec's equalization determination formula.
Albertans will be paying twice. Once for the project, and again (many times) for the equalization.
Alberta has to include its oil when determining its fiscal capacity, but Quebec doesn't have to include its hydro power.
🚨BREAKING: Alberta now has a timeline to leave Canada.
October 19, 2026: Albertans vote to schedule an independence referendum.
Spring 2027: Albertans vote on independence itself.

This day in 1942, was a dark day in Canadian history.
Nearly 5,000 Canadians hit the beaches of Dieppe, France.
In just nine hours:
• 916 killed
• 1,946 taken prisoner
• 3,367 total casualties
Only about 2,210 returned to England (many wounded).
Officially a test of German defences and amphibious tactics that provided hard lessons for D-Day a few years later.
Some research suggests a secret goal. To seize a German Enigma machine and codebooks under cover of the main assault (it failed).
Remember their sacrifice.
Lest we forget.
You are important. God is calling you to do something to help your family, your community, your church, your nation. Do not believe the propaganda that you are tiny and insignificant. God calls the most unlikely among us to be the heroes of history.
