@SpcialNdsJungle This is so sad, so many disabled kids are give an EHCP and put in a mainstream setting only because the council has not money to put them anywhere better, not because it is the right fit. Children only get what they need once they have failed elsewhere…. This happened to us!

@SpcialNdsJungle My son’s EHCP manager left unexpectedly. She was very nice but not knowledgeable about our area…. So sad there are not better people in this field generally

@damiankelleher My husband read magic mountain when he was young and music many years later and love it. I read 4 volumes of Proust’s…. Just start and do not be rule out failure. If you are scared to fail you will never start. It’s about the journey not the destination!

@edfreeuk As am educating mother of five years I agree. But do not forget we need to teach our kids social skills and communication skills. These need to be done in groups with other children, and not just in a family setting. So I feel blest to have found a great home education community.

@draevans I think it can be much more than that. If you have ASD mildly you may have this view. But many who have the conditions more severely are not able to engage i. Your conversation and discussion and that very fact means your statement is wrong

@PaulWhiteleyPhD Post diagnosis you are left with a lot of overwhelming advice… it takes years to come to terms with this. Then when your child’s needs change and you need to see a specialist they say we only have time for assessments? It’s beyond frustrating.

@SpcialNdsJungle Even with a diagnosis it’s hard to get qualified specialist doctors to help you on an ongoing basis in the UK on the NHS or Privately. If your child’s needs change or needs medication they simple feel it’s not urgent either.

@WilcockAlice If people are not in a school setting it does not mean they are all not being educated. The home education community is filled with parents who take education more seriously than most. We are luck to have this great option.

@homeedcentral Totally, I loved school but it brings out the worse in my son. Also, this article forgets to say that some kids are asked to leave schools to safeguard other kids but not given an alternative placement (because there is no suitable one). We are lucky that home education is aloud.

@Unschooling1 John Holt gave me the confidence to home educate and it’s been a great 4 year journey with my youngest son - but I loved school myself as did did my older children. The world needs to be full of options and choices to fill the world with a great and thriving diverse community.
