@sysadafterdark I use TrueNAS now for my VM san datastore, very happy with it. Looking into this for proxmox as well.
My VMUG expires in April and not sure I’ll get my cert to renew it :(
@Aizen123321@sysadafterdark This makes a lot of sense to me. My main problem with the Dell driver utility is the duplicate driver thing. I hate all the dependencies it creates the more models you import.
At the risk of extra space, I’d much rather have the full drivers be in each package.
@Aizen123321@sysadafterdark Curious what you mean by this. What does that look like? I assume it’s to stop SCCM from skipping drivers already imported, so you know each driver package has full drivers
@sysadafterdark Do you use online installer or offline? I found the setup.exe with matching XML for what you want works great (assuming you are ok with online installer). Have used them for all my office configs.
@SnazzyLabs I wish iMessage had this. In MS Teams I use the chat with myself where I send messages of stuff I don't want to forget.
Yeah I could use some reminders app, but it's so easy to just shoot a chat with some info for me to read later.
@sysadafterdark At home, I try to do as much on-prem as I can to learn it all. Seems I get to a point where I know "enough" that I could offload the thing I'm doing to SaaS to make time for new stuff (as long as it's CHEAP).
At work, staff time and budget might determine on-prem vs. SaaS.
@SnazzyLabs@MKBHD There’s a linear relationship as the temp of the pizza goes down, so does the tastiness. Therefore: hot pizza > room temp > cold pizza
@sysadafterdark@Cthulhu_Answers I use an online resume/portfolio sorta like you do with your blog. It’s a nice real world showcase of what we sysadmins can do in our own control. May not matter to big companies but smaller ones you can definitely stand out imo
@RaidOwlTweets Follow-up question…on scale of 1-10 how confident are you in the data stored on a Synology vs TrueNAS system? For example some miss-config or hardware failure leading to data loss?
