It's a new day for Detroit. Not only will our specific community be safe, but this sets a precedent for communities across Detroit to be able to protect their neighborhoods and continue to push against toxic industrial development.
The fight for a healthy just Detroit continues.
This victory is a notice to any developer who views Detroit as a cheap land as an opportunity without thinking about how it'll impact our communities.
To all developers. Come but come with integrity and listen to the community, its history, and our need for a cohesive future.

This is an incredible victory for our majority Black and low-income neighborhood that has fought hard to protect their community from environmental racism, an issue in Detroit plagues the city of Detroit. We will not be a sacrifice zone for someone else's profit.

It also means that profit-hungry industrial developers like Murray Wikol can't propose any more horrible and environmentally racist concrete crushers or other projects right beside our homes and businesses.

🧵 GREAT NEWS! Yesterday, the City Council voted in favor of our downzoning campaign in Core City.
This means 60+ lots in our neighborhood will move from being zoned "M4 Intensive Industrial" to "SD2 Special District 2" (residential/commercial).
