On this day in 1915, over 1.5 million Armenians were systematically murdered by Ottoman Turks and Azerbaijani nomads.
This genocide is a painful reminder of the atrocities committed, and its memory must never fade.
I highly recommend anyone interested in studying the Armenian genocide read @felix__guattari's article on Lowry's book on Morgenthau. He put in a lot of crucial legwork to audit the supposed examples of manipulation in Morgenthau's memoir. But, a summary of key findings:
• Lowry sought to discredit Morgenthau by portraying him as completely reliant on interpreters in carrying out his duties as ambassador. Going as far as to assert that Morgenthau knew none of the "principal languages spoken in the Ottoman Capital". While true when Morgenthau assumed his post, he quickly dedicated himself to developing a fluency in French, starting the second day after officially receiving his credentials. It is clear from a reading of his diary that by 1915, Morgenthau was more than capable of conversing reliably in French.
• Many of the alleged discrepancies cited by Lowry are either based on careless misreadings or a failure to acquaint himself with broader archival sources or secondary literature. Below, I'll cite my two favorite examples:
- Lowry's attempt to claim that Morgenthau invented Talaat's hostility to "priests, rabbis, and hodjas". This statement is actually recorded in an Oct. 1914 diary entry by Morgenthau. While the full context of Talaat's claim to have been "the most religious in cabinet" was interpreted as an intoxicated joke. One can only be baffled by Lowry's choice to omit crucial wording from this relevant diary entry.
- Lowry takes advantage of the fact that some key details are missing from Morgenthau's diary but appear in the relevant State Department records. Such as the Ottoman government's attempt to claim Armenian life insurance policies from American providers, such as the New York Life Insurance Company. Shavarsh Toriguian had already published documents in 1988 corroborating Morgenthau's account. Two full years before Lowry released his brief book on Morgenthau.
• A key point in understanding Morgenthau's memoir is that it was deliberately edited to appeal to a wider audience. The changes weren’t entirely malicious, but leaned more toward sensationalism. Many of the oddities in Morgenthau's memoir stem from chronological crunching, probably by his editor Burton J. Hendrick, merging various conversations over a few days or months into a seamless conversation. An early critic of Lowry, Dennis Papazian, noted that the practice of ghostwriting by outsiders has a long tradition among politicians and ambassadors, who often retire and publish hagiographic accounts that gloss over flaws in their careers. It obviously isn't a glaring or unusual sign of manipulation.
• Finally, Lowry fails to assess the reliability of some sources he uses to undermine Morgenthau. Despite having direct access to one of the most important contemporary records to review both Morgenthau and George Abel Schreiner's accounts, he instead chooses to quote a lengthy section of a letter Schreiner wrote to Morgenthau over his memoir. Many of Schreiner's objections, while probably coming from genuine belief, do not accord with the facts. For example, Schreiner claimed that Morgenthau's assertion that he gained the journalist unusual access to the Gallipoli front was a lie. Schreiner's assertion is platformed without corroboration by Lowry. This is despite the fact that Morgenthau's diary entry of February 22, 1915, explicitly recorded his lobbying for the journalists' access to the Dardanelles. While his April 6th, 1915, entry records the exceptional nature of his access.
In gist, Lowry's attempt to discredit Morgenthau is entirely without merit. As Dadrian noted decades ago, it’s evident that Lowry approached the topic with preconceived conclusions and searched for any evidence that could potentially discredit Morgenthau. Ultimately, this search located nothing significant.

Friends, it is heartbreaking that we even need to launch a fundraiser for Vicken. Unfortunately Vicken is in need of financial support to undergo medical treatments as he was brutally tortured while in baku's prison. Please help. No donation is too small.

Unidentified individuals reportedly removed Armenian Apostolic and Orthodox Christian icons from a church in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, and dumped them near a trash container, according to Sputnik Georgia.
The incident allegedly took place during the night of May 10 at the abandoned Surb Nshan Church, also known as Mardii Church. Georgia’s Interior Ministry has reportedly launched a criminal investigation over the unlawful obstruction of religious rites.
Father Hakob Sahakyan, spiritual inspector for the Akhaltsikhe and Borjomi regions of the Armenian Apostolic Church, said some of the discarded icons were Georgian, suggesting the act may have been intended to provoke tensions between Armenians and Georgians.
“We do not know who carried this out. This concerns both Armenian and Georgian brothers,” he said.

🔥 A CALL TO ACTION FROM LUIS MORENO OCAMPO @MorenoOcampo1
On 4 May 2026, more than 40 national leaders from Europe—including non-EU countries such as the United Kingdom, Norway, and Switzerland—will gather in Yerevan to participate in the 8th European Political Community (EPC) Summit. The goal is “to coordinate responses to shared strategic challenges.” The following day will see the first-ever Armenia–EU Summit, attended by the leadership of the EU institutions, to deepen Armenia’s integration with Europe.
Nagorno-Karabakh is absent from the meetings’ agenda. Yet it will inevitably be present. European leaders will confront the reality of 120,000 people who were forcibly removed from their ancestral land and who now live in or around Yerevan. Their staff will prepare their positions in the coming weeks. This is the time to engage them—to explain the problem, to demand actions and to request concrete assistance.
To release the hostages and to find forms to protect Armenia and respect Nagorno-Karabakh people, a new social media campaign is coming:
#EuropeanPoliticalCommunity
#FreeArmenianHostages
#EUrespectEUCharter
By reposting or commenting we can participate in the protection of Nagorno-Karabakh people rights.
We can participate in ending the denial of the 2023 Armenian genocide.
Protecting Armenians is protecting civilization.
