A recent @people mag report claimed that Ben Affleck was ‘very much in favor’ and a ‘driving force’ behind J.Lo’s 2024 album & film release ‘This is me… now’.
It also claimed that Affleck 'encouraged' the couple's life in the public eye.
Here’s why the article is largely FALSE & misleading.
- A THREAD - 🧵
I’m smiling from ear to ear after just having finished The Accountant 2 (🌟🌟🌟🌟). Ben Affleck is outstanding in this film & his chemistry with Jon Bernthal cannot be understated. I could watch these two shoot the shit & kick ass for hours. The Accountant 2 works as both a mystery-thriller and a throwback buddy-cop popcorn flick, and the end result is a really entertaining film. This won’t win awards & it won’t break box office records- it’s just a damn good time at the movies that left my theater laughing & cheering.
The Accountant 2 is a rare example of a Hollywood sequel that deserved to be made. I always felt like green-lighting this sequel was never a guarantee: this sequel was made as a byproduct of the cultural success of the original film. I truly believe Affleck and everyone involved in this project listened to the fans when deciding to make this sequel rather than viewing this film strictly as a cash-grab. I’ll also add that if you haven’t seen the original Accountant, don’t let that deter you from seeing this film. There are very few, if any, barriers to enter this movie because the sequel is very straightforward- which is part of the reason I’m not going to go into the plot much here. All you need to know is Ben Affleck is a brilliant mind & a brilliant assassin who happens to be brothers with Jon Bernthal. Beyond that, I don’t want to spoil anything from the plot for those reading this review.
The two biggest reasons I love this film, besides the performances which I’ll touch on shortly, is the action & the comedy. In terms of comedy, the laughter throughout the theater was palpable due to the banter between Bernthal & Affleck. Their chemistry is so natural & so slap-sticky, it almost felt like the two are brothers in real life. In terms of action, I thought the set pieces, combat sequences, and all the heavy artillery fucking rocked. The final thirty minutes of this film is Affleck & Bernthal going guns blazing like two bats out of hell. It’s everything you want from a movie like this.
Lastly, a word on Ben Affleck’s performance. Affleck is 52 years old now (which is insane), and I don’t know how many more of these physically-demanding action films he intends to take on. But regardless of where Affleck goes from here, he’s still a total force of nature. His physicality and on-screen presence is that of a definitive movie star. Juxtapose Affleck’s physicality with his tight-lipped line-delivery & comedic timing and you get a really memorable Ben Affleck performance. For example, there’s a moment in this film where Affleck learns to square dance in the thickest Nike sneakers you’ve ever seen & everyone in the theater loved it. It sort of encapsulated Affleck’s entire performance perfectly.
Movie stars still definitely exist and Ben Affleck is one of them.
