I got Tyla to wear my brand, and this is how I did it:
Tyla was performing in Indonesia, and I knew it was an opportunity to take advantage of if I wanted my Indonesian-made clothing brand, Kine, to reach a global opportunity.
I knew I couldn’t just DM her, because my message would be lost among thousands of others, so I had to find another way —
Can’t make this up, Tyla was just seen wearing our hat in NYC, AGAIN. 2 hours ago, Tyla’s fan accounts tagged my brand, Kine. At first I thought it was a repost of her wearing our hat from 5 months ago, but to my surprise, it is a new picture.
This time, she debuted a new hair color, while wearing Kine’s black K Hat. I guess she likes our hats :)

4. And there it was, Tyla posted an entire Instagram carousel of her wearing my brand, Kine’s, hat.
When I started my clothing brand when I was only 15, I wouldn’t even dream that globally known artists like Tyla would wear my clothes. It shows that with a little bit of creativity, you can get what you want.
3. I showed up met with Tyla's photographer. He got the clothes and was happy, but then he said that Tyla is already in Korea. Still, 1 gave him some clothes and a hat to give to her just in case.
I didn't think much of it, until I was flying back to Berkeley. I connected to the WiFi on the plane and I was flooded with texts.
"Tyla wore your hat."
2. Immediately, my team and I showed up to Fairmont. We waited, but there was no sign of him and he didn't reply to my texts. Finally, after a few hours, I got a text from him. "Sorry bro, let's meet tomorrow morning."
So, we went back home, and came back the next morning.
1. I thought of who in Tyla's circle I could just reach out to and would read my DMs. After 10 minutes of looking around, I found Tyla's personal photographer's Instagram and messaged him, "Hey, saw that you are in town, I would love to send you clothes I made for you and the team".
At 2 a.m. he replied to my text,
"Meet me at Fairmont."
