This essay fails to grapple with the challenges that the UK faces in the AI race.

Firstly, energy is barely mentioned, but it’s fundamental to AI and the wider re-industrialisation that Britain needs. Our energy costs are among the most expensive in the world. With Labour, you don’t get cheap energy, you don’t get data centres and you don’t get AI deployed in factories and good manufacturing jobs. Reform will scrap Net Zero and maximise all available energy sources, making electricity cheap and abundant for all.

Secondly, there is no plan for how to secure buildouts that actually benefit Britain and its local areas. Reform is looking into how local communities can be given a stake in data centres, such as through sharing in the business rates they generate, which can then be reinvested in local areas.

Under a Reform government, Britain will build an AI industry that can drive us to the technological and economic frontier.

Lisa Nandy has quit X. Her decision to leave the social media platform, which prides itself on being a forum for free speech, is a signature move from the Starmer Government.

As FSU Director of Legislative Affairs Sam Armstrong says, ministers try to control the debate. If they cannot, they walk away or attempt to fine, censor and bully social media companies into submission.

If Lisa Nandy really wanted to tackle the spread of misinformation, she should stay on the platform and counter it through open debate. But, as Sam says, “people are being radicalised not by misinformation but by the truth”.

It is also worth remembering that just last week, as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy was in the House of Commons spearheading plans to force social media platforms to prioritise what the Government deems to be “trustworthy” news sources.

The footage circulating online shows a young white man being attacked and then arrested.

It’s baffling that he was arrested while the two black men who attacked him weren’t.

If there’s additional footage that explains why the officer acted as she did it should be shared immediately to clear things up.

Otherwise the public will rightly question the clear unequal treatment by your officer.

And why you describe the incident as a ‘fight’ in your statement when the footage shows only one person being attacked.

This wouldn’t be a one off incident either. We saw two-tier policing by Hampshire Police when they came to the scene of Henry Nowak. We saw it for decades across the county with the Grooming Gangs that went unpunished.

The police have lost the benefit of the doubt in the eyes of many.

They’ve had enough.

They need a much better explanation than this if they are to trust you again.
