Silvopasture is the future of human and planet health. Taken on the family farm. Giving sheep a decent retirement. Silver for UK sheep farmer of the year ‘22
Very lucky to have had a few things written about what I’m up to. But I think this is my favourite. And on this wet Autumn night it’s a reminder Spring will return. Thank Charlie Holland of @Londnr magazine. Charlie really got it. That lad is going places. https://t.co/yI5T1eJDxQ
@MsMelChen@bendreyfuss Correlation between rewilding (corporate takeover of land) and where it rains most in the UK needs to be looked at I think. Beginning to suspect it’s related to feeding data centres. Same with ‘temperate rainforest’.
Shout out to @cat_frampton - great advice last year - keep nudging with sheep - soft rush really struggling on my conservation 20 acres - so happy with the direction it’s heading.
Pasture, Dartmoor, grazed on a ‘move often on rotation’ system*
(Not a hay field)
Wildlife and food production in the same place at the same time.
Work in progress, but we are getting there.
(* as everything is a abbreviation now I’m calling it MOoR grazing! )
Introducing livestock to arable rotations can:
🌿 Improve soil health
🐑 Manage weeds and pests naturally
🌍 Boost biodiversity
And more…..

@BenGoldsmith Deferred winter grazing by sheep. Sorted in two years. The only I think. Also heard a rumour of some research showing sheep are essential for establishing ‘temperate rainforest’. Hope it’s not being suppressed.
I’m going to have to over winter a lot of sheep this year. Work starts now to get the soil holding water. Our herbal ley has exploded so bringing in a friends heavy mob. So exciting. Absolute ecosystem engineers.
there are incredibly more animals destroyed, squished, or poisoned, in the production of crops than meat -it's just we do not see / will not accept, these smaller critters are also alert animals with lives of their own
Been a perfect storm to produce frankly world class meat. Got masham very fat in the autumn. During the 7 weeks of continual rain they absorbed outer into the muscle (my theory) then totally new fat this Spring. Sheep got an extra 8 months of life. Restaurants doing ok as well!
@JaneEFindlay@BenGoldsmith I believe quickest way to do it is deferred Autumn/Winter grazing. In most of the country that would be with sheep. Thats when we feed worms. Been doing it a few years now. You can get most land holding a huge amount of water in about two years.
