The Industry and Enterprise team got a set of tools to call their own today. They also finished off setting up a new garden shed by building the timber base, levelling the ground, attaching the shed to the base and adding a crushed rock floor to store said tools.
Excitingly! The first sod was turned in the new space for our VCE Industry and Enterprise – part of the Design Futures initiative. We’ll be building wicking beds, market gardens, aboriginal food gardens, food forest, Hügelkultur, composting, and plant propagation. #gardening
How lucky am I to be enjoying some indigenous foods inspired wattle seed cookies from the Cornish Acacia cafe while building a new playground in the year 7 area. The perfect shady spot under the gumtrees for a playground as well 😀#cornishcollege#playground
Since we’re now building bike tracks at school I need to do my own research! Na not really, being an avid bike rider already no need to twist my arm to make tracks. Some very beautiful forest up at Erica and it certainly recharges the batteries for me.
Team work makes the dream work! Research had begun on building wicking beds but we’ve since pivoted to improving and enhancing the bike track that enters the rear of the College. Why the pivot? Because it was important to them and they all get to learn another set of skills
Another landscaping project completed in the Primary space designed and built by myself and the newly qualified Joshua Hurd. Building with natural materials such as rocks and logs creates the perfect environment for Cornish primary students to explore and play. #landscaping
Evaluating, researching, collecting data and using trail cameras to find out why our casuarinas are growing at different rates and how some have been attacked. The last couple of weeks we’ve been instigating some of the measures to help get them growing to their best potential.
Australian Wood ducks with chicks by the Senior Studies Centre. Not a bad way to relax watching these guys go about their business while studying for VCE exams. #ducks
Was flicking through my photos and found this little fella again. This baby Tawny Frogmouth was very fortunate not to be ran over with the mower and is certainly one of the cutest things we’ve found on campus at Cornish College #bird#BirdsOfTwitter#tawnyfrogmouth
This week saw the 100 acre club make its return having been postponed during Covid. 100 acre club is a group of parents who volunteer their time to work on the land at Cornish and this week we planted over 100 native plants. Why should the kids just have fun? 😀
