@woojeune There is no way to consider Africa and Europe separate continents from Asia without considering North and South America as separate continents from each other.
@zivjelee@emartin_29@SpectralAurora_ And just North and South America, before the Suez Canal, everyone still regarded Africa and Asia as separate continents. So, under any normal thought process around continents, North America and South America must be separate continents, not a single continent.
@zivjelee@emartin_29@SpectralAurora_ I was referring to both of their connections with Asia. For Europe, there’s essentially no division; it’s one continent. For Africa, only the Sinai connects it to Asia, but there’s a canal there now, just as with North and South America, separating it from Asia.
@FunkyTK1@emartin_29@SpectralAurora_ It’s also very self-centered. As Canadians definitely don’t want to be called Americans, and I doubt Iran is referring to Brazil or Guatemala when they say “Death to America”. To most of the world, America is the US, and their views are not inherently less valuable than your’s.
@FunkyTK1@emartin_29@SpectralAurora_ I would say “South American” or “Latin American”. But doesn’t really matter. What’s weird to me is the insistence that the two continents are one and the same, therefore nullifying US citizens of calling themselves Americans. The US are Americans, and Americans refer to the US.
@emartin_29@SpectralAurora_ If you consider Europe or Africa separate continents, North and South America must also be separate continents by definition.
@chuler@9mmballpoint Hence, North America and South America must be separate continents, since the Panama Canal divides the two. But even if the Canal wasn’t there, Europe and Africa were defined as separate continents before the Suez Canal, so the Americas can and should be as well.
@chuler@9mmballpoint That’s the problem. There is no reasonable way you can call Europe a continent and not call the Americas two separate continents. Same with Africa. Europe is entirely locked with Asia; there is no gap to separate them. Africa is only separated by a canal. Just like the Americas.
@the_creature107@BunkerDwellerYT Seriously, if you’re interested, watch the video I linked in an earlier reply. It may be a little condescending from your POV, but it covers everything. Though, he has a lot of text boxes you’ll have to read.
@the_creature107@BunkerDwellerYT Also, it should not be ambiguous if they decanonize post-Bungie stuff as Bungie already confirmed it, and it’s literally the core behind the entire trilogy’s story. Reclaimers, humans innate adeptness to Forerunner tech, the whole Covenant war itself.
@the_creature107@BunkerDwellerYT Brother, sorry, but one set of the terminals and the comics advertising them does not debunk the entire rest of Bungie’s lore. All the mainline Bungie Halo games and their books confirm it (Contact Harvest by Joe Staten). These were terminals were written by O’Connor. No value.
@the_creature107@BunkerDwellerYT All of that is 343i-invented lore after Bungie completed their tenure. Under the original intent, this scene was meant as a confirmation of the Forerunners’ identity, regardless of whatever post hoc justification is given to it to fit in 343i’s lore.
@Mooninite_Spy@mickeymorant I don’t care about Destiny, but as an avid Prof Dave viewer for years, he’s had many, many debates, formal and informal. And a lot of his debunk videos where people attack him, he calls them cowards for avoiding his debates. Dave loves debating and has for years.
