Hui: The next song is a very fresh one — CORTIS’s What You Want.

Kim Eana: This was a really impressive new track.

Hui: Right, right. Honestly, when I first listened to it… well, even the team name “CORTIS” caught my curiosity. They’re the juniors from HYBE, right?

KE : BTS.

HUI : Exactly, BTS’s juniors. I was really curious about their group name, and it turns out it means a kind of free-thinking that doesn’t get tied down by the frameworks of the world. Maybe that’s why… they have this song, and also GO!. Actually, I think I had some of my own preconceptions at first. You know, since K-POP idols are going global now, I assumed there would still be some sort of basic mold or framework their music would stick to.

KE : There has to be a predictable range.

HUI: Right, with challenges, performances, and all that, I expected a certain predictability. But listening to their music, I realized they’ve completely broken out of that box. They feel like a fresh new team with totally different thinking. Both this song and GO! touch on genres that we haven’t really seen much in K-pop before.

KE: I said the exact same thing after listening. Compared to where other artists are positioned, this group feels like they’ve placed themselves in a completely different space. Sonically, in every way. It made me think, “Wow, idols are debuting in Korea with this kind of sound?” It sparked a lot of curiosity for me about their concept too.

HUI: Honestly, seeing this group made me more convinced that open-minded thinking is what allows great works to be created. Choosing this kind of music might not have been easy, since it breaks away from the existing mold. But because of that, it comes across as so fresh and impressive. It made me realize that an open mindset in creating art is what can build new positions like this.
