So very proud of this galoot for passing his PhD defence yesterday! Never had any doubt -- I even wrote out a congratulations card addressed to Dr. Lemoine IN PEN.

If you, like me, are concerned about the anti-trans legislation being passed around the world, and you live in Canada, please consider signing this petition for Canada to grant asylum status to trans refugees, even from "developed" nations like the US/UK:

Lots of articles are treating this as a heartwarming story (of course), but my pet theory is that orcas have discovered the benefits of raising livestock and we should all be gravely concerned: https://t.co/VUq0M7W8wv
I serendipitously found this charming children's book about an adventurous apprentice cartographer at my local library and heartily recommend it to anyone in #gischat who either a) has kids, or b) is still an overgrown kid at heart.

After a year-long slog, I mapped the last river for the 7.5 million Natural Earth dataset. It's in NW China near the pole of continentality, the spot on land furthest away from any ocean. A big thanks to @CorwanGroux for doing most of the river work in eastern Asia.

@MapsbyW@30daymap_tweets Sure! I wanted Marie Byrd land to stand out, so I gave the NE Antarctic claims layer a gray fill and then applied a saturation blend mode. That way, all the areas which are claimed by a nation become grayscale.
If there's anything else you're curious about, let me know!
