Royal Thai Army Condemns Cambodia BM-21 Rockets Strike Hits Civilian Area in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, Injuring Four Civilians
This morning (December 13, 2025), the Royal Thai Army received a report from the 2nd Army Region that Cambodian forces had fired BM-21 rockets into a civilian area, landing in front of a shelter bunker at Moo 1, Saothongchai Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province.
The incident caused injuries to civilians who had heard the warning sirens and were running into the bunker for safety. Two people were seriously injured:
1. Mr. Kaew Kinnara â suffered a broken right arm
2. Mr. Ramphai Suwansilp â sustained a head injury with bleeding in the brain
The Royal Thai Army coordinated with local administrative and public health authorities to urgently transfer all injured persons to Benchalak Hospital, Sisaket Province.
Two other civilians were also injured: Mr. Khomsan Sriuan â wounded by shrapnel at the back of the neck, Mr. Seree Patthinsee â suffered head swelling from shrapnel impact. Both were rushed to Sirattana Hospital.
The Royal Thai Army strongly condemns the actions of Cambodian military forces before the international community. This incident is clear evidence of the use of weapons against civilian areas unrelated to Cambodiaâs military operations, constituting a grave violation of human rights and international humanitarian law, and directly endangering the lives and property of innocent civilians.

An extremely detailed map of Thai and Cambodian military buildup along the Northern border of the two countries over the past year. Much of the Cambodian buildup occurred prior to July, and most of the Thai buildup has taken place since.
The key hotspots where both sides have built up are:
- Prasat Ta Muan Thom
- Prasat Ta Kwai
- Prasat Khnar
- Chong Rayi
- Phu Pha Lek
- Preah Vihear
- Prasat Doun Tuan
- Chong An Ma
- Chong Bok
By and large, Thailand appears to have focused on building accessibility to more areas of the border, whereas Cambodia has fortified specific points, with fortifications around O'Smach and Chong Sangam specifically occurring without much contestation.
Overall, especially considering the scale of road-building through the forest, Thailand has expanded their presence more significantly (especially over the past 5 months) at the border. The most significant of these, from my view, is the plateau-edge between Phu Makhuea and Phlan Hin Paet Ko. In this area, it appears that Thai forces have cut off Cambodian supply to the top of the plateau, and largely taken over these positions.
More detailed analysis of where Thailand has moved its forward-deployment line since July will be provided in future posts.
Over the past two days, I spoke with major international media â #CNN, #BBC, #CNA, #AlJazeera, and #Reuters â to convey the facts on the #ThaiâCambodian border situation as part of Thailandâs proactive diplomacy.
I reiterated that Thailand will defend its sovereignty and protect its people to the fullest. The use of landmines on Thai soil is unacceptable and requires responsible clarification, and economic pressure must not be used as a political tool.
#Thailand will always defend its people, honour its obligations, and choose diplomacy grounded in truth and responsibility.

ðĻ Border Tensions Rise ðđðð°ð
Thailandâs army says it launched air strikes along a disputed border area with Cambodia after fresh clashes.
The strikes aim to push back Cambodian forces and control rising tensions.
Royal Thai Army Accuses Cambodia of Aggression Aimed at Casualties, Obstruct Mine Clearance and Roadwork â Affirms Thai Response Followed International SelfâDefense Rules
On December 7, 2025, at 2:15 p.m., Cambodian troops used weapons to attack Thai forces in the area of Phu Pha LekâPhlan Hin Paet Kon, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, resulting in two Thai soldiers being injured.
Major General Winthai Suvaree, Army spokesperson, stated that the incident occurred while Thai forces were carrying out a mission to improve a road within Thai sovereign territory. A group of Cambodian soldiers opened fire on the security team protecting the Thai engineering unit working on the road. Thai forces then returned fire, leading to a clash that lasted about 15â20 minutes.
He confirmed that Cambodian forces initiated the use of weapons first, with the apparent aim of causing Thai casualties and losses. This was similar to Cambodiaâs repeated practice of secretly planting landmines inside Thai sovereign territory, intended to obstruct Thailandâs operations to clear mines and improve routes for security missions along the border.
Such behavior constitutes a deliberate violation of agreements and is believed to potentially undermine mechanisms of cooperation in maintaining peace along the borderâefforts that Thailand has consistently pursued.
He emphasized that Thailandâs use of weapons adhered strictly to the rules of engagement, was necessary for self-defense under international principles, and was proportionate to respond to actions that posed a threat to national security.
