Started even before then when Death of Auto-Tune won Best Rap Solo Performance over Best I Ever Had and that was the year he got his first ever nominations lol. He's always been critical of them tbh.
It was huge mostly because of Going Bad and once the momentum of that song wore off, so did the album. He's released a lot more music since then that never captured the motion that album or any of his previous notable albums had and he's mostly seen as a joke these days.
I did speak to bro
but I’m not speaking for him when I say this
this sound, tempo, energy
isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Read Neuromancer for the 5th time ahead of the series premiere next year and as seminal/incredible as it is, I still think Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive are better demonstrations of William Gibson's grandest and wackiest ideas.
It's also funny that this argument is almost always targeting Drake fans. The man has been the most successful rapper in the world for almost 2 decades now. Clearly his fans have proven they can support his music and brag about/be proud of his commercial performance.
A lot of you are masters of bad-faith arguments and you always move the goal post.
Numbers either matter or they don't. You can't have it both ways. You can't bring up/brag about numbers when your fave puts them up and then talk them down when someone you dislike puts them up.
And yes, fans absolutely have the right to be invested in the statistical performance of any entity they actively support. Without fans, even the most talented musician has no career. It's entirely possible to care about the art AND the numbers said art puts up.

I watched this back in 2024 and immediately knew Drake was cooked lmao. There was nothing he was ever going to be able to say to people like this who never saw that shit as just another rap battle. Niggas were really calling that battle "the battle for the soul of hip-hop" 😂😂😂
This is definitely mental illness but at least he can openly admit that he's always hated Drake. I don't know why most Drake haters can't just do this. It shouldn't have to be said but there's no rule that says you HAVE TO like Drake lol.
