@valuations_ congratulations for the piece. I am in this field too, and am cheering for AST. At the same time, who does not want to see there is a long way ahead till this becomes a profitable business, better be ready for some pain.
@SJCapitalInvest@tilmancompounds I think it's a bit overpriced despite the great job is doing. I have invested in it when it was <10 USD/share and made good money on it. Now I waiting for a serious pullback to load more, I like their coming reusable rocket.
@redrum_2001 SatCo will provide services to govs. However, it will be its own system, not IRIS2. Whether AST is involved in IRIS2 or not is not the relevant point here. SatCo itself is a great thing and positions AST closer to get licenses for EU S-band 2GHz (and access to EU market).

it's an honest question. Where is the relation between IRIS2 initiative and SatCo?
there is no evidence this joint venture (where the satellite operator and supplier is a US company) will getting IRIS2. AST does not need IRIS2 to be relevant, it has its own path - D2D :)
@redrum_2001 SatCo is not IRIS2, it's another constellation and different purpose, different governance, different use cases, different technology, etc. IRIS2 has its own filings, under DE and FR.
The angle behind SatCo is a different one - get licensing rights for part of 2 GHz MSS band.

- 192 sats (690 km, 53°)

- 96 sats (690 km, 66°)
IRIS2 - 264 sats at 1200 km.
Frequency bands - SatCo - L and S according to the filing. IRIS2 - Ku/Ka/Ka-Mil
@redrum_2001 What about Eutelsat as satellite operator of 1200km and Airbus (platform) and Thales (payload)?
AST is a US company with factory in US, not in the EU. The whole point of IRIS2 is to have an independent EU system.
Is there any evidence pointing to SatCo? Honest question.

@redrum_2001 I think the S-band priority rights are misunderstood. In the EU, Viasat and Echostar are incumbens for the past 18 years. AST still needs to go up against them and others to get some post-2027 (when licences will be renewed). The recent acquisition is not a guarantee.

I guess no operator will say no to more spectrum, especially in the EU, where is pretty much "gifted" with no auction/money spent, just the promise to bring the spectrum in use. Just curios what will end up being rolled out.

I believe much of the recent announcements have to do with the S-band licensing rights for the next 20 years in the EU & AST wants a slice. Not sure yet if embarking both L and S MSS is real - in my pov, L/n255 is sufficient for the mission.
@CatSE___ApeX___ I need to look more into the details of Block 3 array. Going L+S could also be one of the reason the array needs to be much bigger (not the only reason)

Will ASTS deploy an L-or an S-band system finally? On our satellites we have an antenna for L-band and another for S-band as antenna gain is frequency dependent. Will AST interlace L and S elements on Block 3 array?What about the 850 MHz used for SCS today?
