Robbins Sports Surfaces Empowers Universities to Achieve NCAA D-I Men’s Basketball Championship Dreams
As the excitement of NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament tips off, the path to victory for many of the 68 tournament teams has been paved on Robbins Sports Surfaces. Robbins’ premium sports flooring systems serve as the foundation for elite competition all season long, supporting teams in their home arenas and practice facilities.

This year, 31 of the 68 teams competing in the tournament rely on Robbins flooring for their home courts (including practice courts) that help train and prepare athletes at the highest level. Samford University is excited to unveil its new state-of-the-art recreation, wellness and athletic facility, a transformative addition to the campus that enhances opportunities for physical fitness, mental wellness, and community engagement. Spanning 165,000 square feet across four buildings, this facility stands as one of the largest capital projects in the university’s history and is a key component of its campus master plan.

The redesigned Seibert Hall pictured now features multi-use courts, fitness studios, dance spaces, a modern weight room, and a welcoming common area complete with lounge spaces, a coffeehouse, and a 24-hour convenience store. Bashinsky Field House has been fully refurbished, providing dedicated training and practice spaces for Samford’s Division I basketball and volleyball teams. A new building adjacent to Seibert Hall includes gym spaces, and for the first time in Samford’s history, a suspended indoor walk-jog track.

Covington played a vital role in this project, installing the gym floor and walk-jog track that enhance the facility’s state-of-the-art features. Covington also installed the Performance Sports (PSS) Basketball overheads, Volleyball standards, gym divider curtains and safety wall pads in the project.

In addition to the athletic surfacing, and what has turned out to be the talk of students and administrators, is the “Social Stairs” and matching staircase constructed from the original maple flooring reclaimed from the Seibert gym constructed in 1961.
