You are right to focus on the fee market. Subsidy trends to zero and fees must take over.

Bitcoin on chain should not be used to pay for a coffee. The base layer is the foundation: sound money, final settlement, censorship resistance.

Coffee belongs on layers. Layers compress transactions, but they also grow the economy that needs final settlement: channels opening and closing, rebalances, batched payouts, exchanges in and out, merchant treasury sweeps, cold storage moves.

This looks scary only before mass adoption. At scale, settlement demand becomes the fee engine.

And we should not change the base chain. Keep it boring, stable, hard as steel.
