Every Filipino, including the faithfuls of Iglesia Ni Cristo, has the right to protest. But the rest of us also have the right to ask: why would a religious organization stand in defense of someone who has admitted to receiving large sums of money from private individuals while serving as a public official? On his own, and unprovoked, Senator Marcoleta has publicly and personally admitted to it. No faith, whatever the religion may be, should be used to shield corruption or place anyone above accountability and the rule of law.

LOOK: The Boy Scouts of the Philippines - Tacloban City Council paid tribute to "fallen hero" Senior Scout Chris Lorenz T. Fabian, the 15-year-old student who died during the Tacloban school shooting.

The council described Chris as a young boy who "stood as a shield for others" and who "lived out the Scout Oath and Law until your very last breath."

A garbage crisis is already serious on its own. It requires a mayor who is calm, in sync and can get the problem resolved in a legal manner before the issue spreads. But instead of showing discipline, Baste turned the issue into yet another Duterte-like arrogance.
