Transient shapers are one of the most underused tools in mixing.
Most people who have them use them to make drums punchier.
That's maybe 20% of what they can do.
Try this on room mics: cut the attack, boost the sustain.
You get a room sound that feels enormous without washing out the kit.
Try it on acoustic guitar: cut the sustain slightly.
Suddenly the strums have space between them and the chord ring doesn't blur.
Try it on synth pads: boost attack by just a touch.
The pad goes from blurry to defined without EQ or compression.
Try it on vocals: cut the attack a little.
You fight with sharp consonants without squashing the vocals with compression.
Transient shapers work on texture too, not just for punch.
Start thinking of them that way.
