A new 3v3 women's basketball league called "Unrivaled" officially starts today.
Here's everything you need to know 👇
Unrivaled was co-founded by WNBA players Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.
The idea was to create a league that appropriately compensates WNBA players so they don't have to travel abroad during the offseason.
Unrivaled will feature six teams with 36 total players, including:
• Breanna Stewart
• Napheesa Collier
• Brittney Griner
• Cameron Brink
• Angel Reese
• Sabrina Ionescu
• Aliyah Boston
• And many others
The inaugural season, including the playoffs, lasts nine weeks, and all games are played at Unrivaled's facility in Miami.
There will be an $8 million salary pool, with players earning an average salary of $222,000 — more than the WNBA's max salary of $214,000.
Players will also receive equity in the league, and they can earn even more money throughout the season, like the 1v1 midseason tournament that will provide the winner with $250,000.
Unrivaled can pay these salaries for two reasons.
1. The league signed an exclusive, six-year media rights deal with TNT worth more than $100 million, which includes more than 45 primetime games.
2. Unrivaled has raised $35 million from investors.
