Strong hands at the catch point, maintaining possession through contact.
When the ball comes your way, your job is to secure it every time, eliminate drops, be reliable, and earn the quarterback’s trust.
Your first responsibility is to catch the football. Your greatest skill is getting open.
WR Posture Drill
- The primary objective of the posture drill is to train players on every type of break by focusing on violent hip movement and gaining total control
- Coaches should prioritize technique and control over having players stop exactly on a yard line
- Executing a violent first step into the ground is critical for maintaining posture and effectively initiating the break
- The drill progresses from a stationary start to moving between lines, allowing coaches to regulate speed and emphasize proper mechanics
- To save the players' legs while focusing on technique, keep the drill distance to approximately five or six yards
- Players must continue coming back toward the ball until it is in their hands to ensure they beat defenders to the reception point

Ole Miss with a great WR drill that maximizes reps of multiple coaching points
1. 90 degrees break
2. 45 degrees break back to the ball
3. Catch and tuck
4. First step upfield after catch
5. Make a man miss to YAC score
Awesome 👏🏼
Handcuff Drill- a great warm up or finisher to emphasize using good had position. We have resistance bands on to keep our hands together and tight when making the catch. The first set of reps add a contested catch element.
Chop Fit- a variation of a staple in the FIT blocking series. The WR must first get the DBs hands off in order to get a good FIT and complete the block. We typically have the shield facing handles out so the WR has a target for good inside hand position.

Campbell Curl- both WRs run a curl around a pop up to add a distraction element. They then compete for a neutral thrown ball. The WR who doesn’t catch it because a defender. Great way to have guys compete and also work on YAC.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL‼️
Just by 3 quick elite reps, if you’re a detailed WR’s coach or WR himself, you’ll know what specific coaching point was given that truly makes this drill come alive!
