Spoke on my new book Tilak: The Empire's Biggest Enemy at the @AsiaticSocMum recently, with the excellent @cpmadhavan moderating the discussion. Interestingly, a talk at the same Asiatic Society in British-ruled India in 1894 by R P Karkaria in defence of Chhatrapati Shivaji had triggered a mini-sensation in the Deccan, and Tilak launched the Shivaji Utsav just a couple of years later (in 1896), creating an even bigger sensation and triggering a sense of alarm in the minds of officials of the British Raj.
