We have already laid out a process and path to guide our Internationalist Organizing - that's R14. R18 will take us backwards, split our international + domestic work, and threaten the progress we've made to democratize the International Committee.
R18 could have dramatic effects on the work of the IC. Why trigger a “constitutional crisis” every time some part of the IC goes against the will of the Convention? Why set up conditions for unending micropolitical contests at every level of the IC? #VoteNoOn18#DSACon2021
There is a lot to like about R18, BUT the structural changes to the IC will further segregate our international and domestic organizing efforts from one another. We've made a lot of progress in the last two years, and we've affirmed that progress by passing R14. #VoteNoOn18
#VoteNoOnR18 because DSA's international work is crucial, impacting the whole org -- and so should be accountable to the whole org, not a small, self-selecting subset of the membership! Keep the IC accountable to the NPC, and vote no on R18.
#VoteNoOn18 - check out this article from members of the International Committee Secretariat about why R18 will hold back our international organizing! https://t.co/qQpmKevcSi
#VoteNoOnR18 Segregating the “domestic” from the “international”, as R18 does, is another way to diminish potential worker power and ensure a future where a weakened left continues to be divided and crushed under the imperial boot of capital.
#VoteNoOnR18 R18 would elevate the IC Secretariat to a parallel NPC for DSA’s international policy. The Secretariat would be empowered to unilaterally write statements for DSA and rewrite the IC’s mission statement at-will—powers currently reserved for Convention and the NPC.
Comrades! This afternoon, we will debate R18 "Internationalism + Mass Organizing." While there is a lot to like about R18, on the whole it is a step backwards for the org and could threaten the incredible progress that the International Committee has made over the last two years
The National Organizing Committee will be a huge step forward for our organization's ability to connect chapters and at-large members with national work. Vote YES on CB6 as amended!
Vote YES on A2 + A3! The National Organizing Committee has a ton of potential to transform our organization and build stronger connections between local and national work. But it won't succeed without these amendments!
Removing R32 from the consent agenda and voting it down was a tough, mature stance for our organization. Now the hard work begins as we build our youth and student wing - together, as one united organization! 🌹
At #DSACon2021 delegates voted to pass the consent agenda for:
✊ Abolition Work
🗳️ Voting Rights
🌱 The Green New Deal
🏘️ Tenant Organizing
🤝 Grievance Reform
🗣️ Spanish Translation
🌹 Multiracial Organizing
🩺 Medicare For All
This is a huge accomplishment for DSA!
After a thorough, principled, and comradely debate, delegates also voted to pass R14 Committing to International Socialist Solidarity by a 2:1 margin. Thank you delegates for opening up DSA towards our neighbors & comrades abroad - towards international socialist revolution! 🌎
