One of the key questions I have is "Who is going to clean house?" And I think any of these three, in addition to their strong urbanist credentials, are going to shake up DC government.
@vivian39_@nilssjobergstan Im on the fence too but tie breaker for me is the Mayor fully controls DDOT & transportation policy & McD is terrible there while the DC Council has as much control on housing as the Mayor so Mendo & his stupid housing takes will be as important as JLGs (or McDs) kooky ones.
Is Grand Rapids one of the Midwest’s most underrated cities?
ArtPrize, craft breweries, riverfront trails, historic neighborhoods, and a downtown that feels far more interesting than people expect.
From my apartment in Van Ness:
Grocery store: 3 min walk
Metro Station: 4 min walk
Dry Cleaner: 6 min walk
Coffee: 4 min walk (7 for better coffee)
Rock Creek Park: 30-second walk
Liquor Store: 4 min walk
Restaurants: 4 min walk
Wegmans: 27 min walk
From my apartment in NW DC:
Grocery store: 41-second walk
Metro Station: 10-min walk
Dry Cleaner: 29-second walk
Coffee: <don’t drink it>
Kalorama Park: 47-second walk
Liquor Store: 2-min walk
Restaurants: 8-second walk
Target: 15-min walk
The question voters should ask is simple: when key transportation projects faced controversy, where did @kenyanmcduffie stand?

My first trip to the neighborhood of North Cleveland Park (aka Van Ness) since 2019 to see 1) that there is now an actual bar (I’m a sucker for those window outdoor bar seating), 2) the historic former Burger King, and 3) the amazing Bread Furst bakery
@BarredinDC I live up this way now and Dog Haus is a godsend. Gives life to the neighborhood. Proper place to get a beer and a bite where there wasn’t really one previously
@JHWeissmann It’s more just historic districts (and housing too) though. His answers to questions and past action on the Council make me unconvinced he won’t listen to NIMBYs/appoint them when it comes to land use, parking, road redesigns. Reminiscent of Bowser early on
This is why I can’t vote for McDuffie. His entire campaign is about allowing DC to stagnate.
I don’t like JLG very much at all. But it seems she is much more open to welcoming new neighbors and making our streets safer for people outside of cars. I’ll be ranking her and not him.
This is absurd from @kenyanmcduffie . Our historic preservation laws are insane. The bar for preservation is very low - you don't even need the permission of the property owner! I know this because someone in 1E almost had their home historically preserved by someone else. (1/3)
@cpneedscoffee@TheGreenZoneDC facts. and let's remember that Green Zone had to cut staff bc of the loss of customers. this is precisely how NOT to (a) design public policy nor (b) build urban space around human beings. we can do so much better... and do right by our residents & workers & small biz
@lst156 This drivel is indistinguishable from the stuff said by 83yo millionaires living in a single family homes who show up to my zoning meetings to complain about the “character of the neighborhood” changing (read: less white) if we let more people live there
The historic relationship between the Cannon Building and its landscape has been restored with a central green space usable for the first time since the 1950s!

“We desperately need a world where kids can be let loose in a neighborhood and told to come home for dinner. That requires more walkable places, which in turn requires a fuller and smarter discussion about walkability.”
