I was at the laundromat. A guy was sitting in his boxers and an undershirt. He was washing one suit. He was staring at the machine, watching it spin. "Big day?" I asked. "Court date," he said. "Trying to get custody of my daughter. I only own one suit, and my cat peed on it this morning." He looked terrified. "I don't know how to tie a tie properly," he admitted. "I usually just clip it." I walked over. "I'm a lawyer," I said. "Not family law, but I know how to look the part." When the suit dried, I helped him steam out the wrinkles. I taught him a Windsor knot. I gave him a pep talk about posture and eye contact. "You love her?" I asked. "More than air," he said. "Then show them that." He left looking like a million bucks. He came back three hours later to find me still folding my sheets. He gave me a thumbs up. He was crying. He got her back.
