Our C-PROOF gliders travel along Line P year-round, and having an existing 65 year historical record of @DFO_Pacific cruise data to compare to means we can now see and measure changes like those caused by marine heat waves in near-real-time. Excellent story from @CIOOSPacific!
From the deep ocean to the atmosphere, long-term research is key to understanding Earth’s complex systems. But to keep these studies going, scientists often have to swim against the current.

Has anyone ever taken an ocean glider on a float plane before? The amazing @HakaiInstitute crew is bringing our @DFO_Pacific / @UVicResearch glider Marvin back home for repairs following a successful winter mission in the remote waters of Queen Charlotte Sound.
Marvin’s journey down the coast of Haida Gwaii (more at https://t.co/hMflJCkmuT) is being discussed as part of #MPANetwork planning for BC’s Pacific North Coast in today’s #CSAS process. @DFO_Pacific @CHN_HaidaNation @ParksCanada @CFNGBI @UVicResearch
The first C-PROOF-enhanced Argo float has been adopted! This @bgc_argo float was adopted by @CHN_HaidaNation to support @ParksCanada science outreach activities in Haida Gwaii schools associated with the @DFO_Pacific Sharing Science at Sea Expedition in Sep 2022. @UVicResearch
“Manufacturers don't make many of these gliders every year, so they are a lot more like a Formula One race car than a Volkswagen”

Chapter 1 of 4 of our new longform feature—a new generation of robots that are changing the face of oceanography
Marvin was deployed off the coast of Haia Gwaii! He traveled down the coast of these remote islands, collecting valuable oceanographic information on proposed marine protected areas, and along the #SWOT altimetry track. @CHN_HaidaNation @ParksCanada@DFO_Pacific@UVicResearch
CPROOF had a great time at #UG2 in Seattle catching up with glider colleagues from North America and around the world. Thanks to the organizers for a great meeting!
Our new gliders are all named after famous robots:
Maria-997
Bumblebee-998
K-999
Hal-1002
Marvin-1003
(@TeledyneMarine kept gliders number 1000 and 1001.)
Our five new gliders join BB, Eva, Rosie, Wall-e, and Mike in our fleet of ten. That's a lot of gliders!
The C-PROOF fleet just doubled in size! Welcome to our five new Slocum G3 gliders, three of which have extended battery bays, and all of which use rechargeable lithium batteries! We are super excited to increase our sampling capability in BC coastal waters and the NE Pacific.
Our glider Rosie just started a mission in the Northeast Pacific Ocean along Line P. The data she's collecting are super valuable, especially because this spring's DFO research cruise had to be cancelled!
