West Ham are close to signing the Venezuela winger Keiber Lamadrid from Deportivo La Guaira. The 22-year-old South American is joining the Hammers on loan for the rest of the season for nominal wages only, with an option to make the deal permanent for € 1 million (£870,000) in the summer.
He will not go straight into the senior squad and is at least 12 months from first-team football, claims one club insider.
He has undergone a medical in Paris and is now awaiting a work permit and international clearance to complete his move to the Premier League.
A club insider says: "He's 12 months away from the first team, but never say never"
The player for the future is a board present rather than a manager pick.
