Children, teachers and their families made some noise at Stirling Council’s offices to push back against proposed cuts to music tuition in schools.

EIS members made some noise in Stirling this morning fighting against the council’s planned quarter-of-a-million pounds cut to the Instrumental Music Service in Stirling’s schools. These cuts would have serious implications for the staff concerned and hugely damaging consequences for young people learning music in Stirling.
100% of NQTs in Glasgow City Council being left without jobs isn’t just ‘definitely not ideal’—it’s a travesty.
As for your comparison, Scottish education is devolved, so challenges in England don’t mitigate failings here.
Teachers deserve better than excuses and ‘whataboutery
No one goes to their work to be abused.
That includes teachers. Abusive behaviour is on the rise. We value the safety and conditions of educators and their pupils. You should too.

Where Were You At The Time of Section 28/2A?
As part of the EIS ‘Stories of Section 28/2A’ project and LGBT+ History Month, the EIS is capturing teachers’ reflections on where they were at the time Section 28/2A was in force and the impact it had. Please use the following survey monkey to share your reflections:

Glasgow’s teachers will stage an initial day of strike action on Thursday 20th February. The EIS anticipates robust support for the strike from members, with a strong likelihood that most of Glasgow’s schools will close on that date. #TeachersMakeGlasgow

It's here! ✉️✅️✊️ I'll be voting yes to strike action to protect teacher jobs in Glasgow and to stand up for a quality education for our young people. @EISGlasgow@EISUnion@GlasgowCC
The Glasgow EIS Statutory Ballot to fight cuts to teacher numbers is now open and will close on February 4th. Look our for your papers arriving in a yellow envelope, if you have not received your ballot papers by 9th January, contact [email protected] to request a replacement set.
Vote YES to protect jobs! #TeachersMakeGlasgow
We tried to reach out to Douglas Hutchinson at Glasgow City Council to ask if he can make assurances that @GlasgowCC will use the funding announced in Parliament to restore teacher numbers and this was the reply we received:
The EIS has announced that it will open a statutory ballot for strike action in Glasgow schools, if Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government do not confirm the reversal of teacher cuts in Glasgow.

Glasgow City Council can end this today by guaranteeing the funding received from Scot Gov/COSLA will go towards reversing the cuts to teaching posts. The ball is in their court.
Teachers in Glasgow will next month be asked if they want to strike, unless school cuts in the city are reversed
172 teaching posts were axed at the start of this academic year. 450 will be lost over a three year period.
The EIS say they'll open a statutory ballot unless the council and Scottish Government commit to restoring those jobs.
The union add that the budget agreement between the Scottish Government and local authorities - which includes a pledge on returning teacher numbers to 2023 levels - means Glasgow should not only halt its future planned cuts, but reinstate roles already lost.
Huge thanks to @craig_union for delivering Training to Members at SLC Today. Enjoyed it.
Our Branch would like to wish all members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🎄🎁
With fewer teachers in our schools in Glasgow, it is becoming increasingly difficult to support our pupils with attendance. We NEED more teachers to get it right for every child in our schools.
