If you are just going to do something trivial, like give up sugar; only to resume it upon easter; rather, than to see this time as a holy campaign, against your own sins, to be given up forever, and fast properly; to increase your practice of prayer; and increase your giving of alms to the Churches causes; then you are not taking Lent seriously; if you do not take Lent seriously - why should anyone else!
